5 Steps to Getting out of a FUNK

5 Steps to Getting out of a FUNK

Helllllo schemers. As you may have noticed, (although probably didn’t) I haven’t posted in almost a month. This is due to a deep dark abyss of schoolwork, bad decisions, laziness, and pessimism I was blindly sucked into and that I have rightfully named: The FUNK. Not only was I making and doing shitty things for myself, I was feeling shitty ABOUT myself. Being the co-founder of this here zine and completely procrastinating producing all of my content led me into a expressive block.  However I finally took the time to step back, relax, and focus on what I needed to do to get me out of this never-ending clusterfuck of self doubt and lack of creativity.

As my trials towards re-reaching organization and happiness proved successful, I thought I would compile 5 things that seriously helped me (and can help you!!) get out of a funk, or some state of being similar to one. If you end up using some of these tips, I wish you the best! (and if they don’t necessarily work out for you, alter them as you wish! nobody is the same (-: )

  1. Clean Ya Room/Apartment/Dorm/Place of Living Pls
I don’t know what it is about being surrounded by a newly organized, polished room that makes me so happy, but it does. Now of course because good things don’t last (and because I have incredibly poor self-motivational skills) this happiness is usually short-term. However if you keep your living space relatively clean/organized, you will have no issue locating all ur different knick knacks, which means you won’t freak out n tear apart your room when you need them!!!
  1. Get on Top of all yr Work
Whether it be school work (which most of y’all don’t have now that it’s ~summer~), business work, or any sort of responsibilities you may have, make sure you’re not falling behind so you don’t have to freak out and do everything last minute! Save your future self the agony and potential freak-out/breakdown. Set aside some ‘you time’ to get all your priorities, assignments, possibly your life as a whole, in check. You will thank yourself.
  1. Pick up a New Hobby
Sometimes doing or trying something new is just the thing you may need to pick you up from that slump/blur/goopy mess that is ‘The Funk.’ I recently started drawing in my journal, which I always keep by my side, but do whatever your heart desires!! Whether it be painting, writing a Mao Zedong fanfiction, knitting, playing a sport, or starting a new Netflix series that you can live vicariously through for the next couple weeks, it’s still something new and exciting and foreign to your current skill set.
  1. Make some badass playlists to be the soundtrack to your new cool life
Now that you have all of your shit together, you need a kickass playlist to conserve yr ‘frisky teen essence’ and remind you of your overall badass self and the fact that you! can! CONQUER! Pick songs that make you wanna dance and shout and get you goin’ so that you can jam while getting ready for the now-eventual good day that lies ahead. If y’all don’t know what to put on your playlist, here’s one I made that you can try on for size (wow 1/1 for dad catch phrases):
  1. Do some of your favorite stuffs’ & treat yo self
Now that you’ve rebooted yourself and are living a new exciting life (!!!!) it’s time for the gud stuff. Have a congratulatory celebration to yourself for getting all of your priorities in line and living a (hopefully somewhat less) stressful life! Get your favorite foods/movies/zines together and put aside some time to do whatever makes you happiest, and don’t hesitate to go all out. ‘Going all out’ for me is basically eating goldfish out of one of those huge boxes while I watch Louie and sleep for 14 hours, but I feel gr8 and rested afterwards, so it works out!!! (trying to find excuses for my lazy habits)

Best of luck to y’all on your adventures
Go out there girls n boys &do big things !
